Steven M. Jaffe, Ph.D.
President, Chief Executive Officer
Steven Jaffe obtained his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Since obtaining his degree he has devoted his energies to the field of emissive display and lighting technologies. He co-founded Quantum Vision, Inc., developing light engines for HDTV based upon the company’s novel phosphor technology. At Quantum Vision, Dr. Jaffe was responsible for the management of customer relations, operations and product and process development. He led financing rounds raising over $14 million from venture firms, angel investors and strategic customers. He was also the principal on several million dollars of government contracts and one of four inventors of the core phosphor technology. At Lumencor Dr. Jaffe is responsible for finance, invention throughout the company’s patent portfolio, engineering new lighting designs and oversees the facilities daily operations.
Claudia B. Jaffe, Ph.D.
Co-Founder and Executive Vice President
Claudia Jaffe earned her doctorate in Bioanalytical Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh. She has developed, published and patented a variety of electrochemical and photoelectrochemical sensors and bioanalytical chips, focusing her efforts on high throughput analyses employing enzymology, immunology and genomics. She was an initial employee of Caliper Technologies and generated the first families of fluorogenic and separation based assays for compound library screening in lab-on-a-chip devices. At Protogene Labs, she developed applications in Q-PCR utilizing novel ink jet printed, customizable microarrays, now produced at Agilent Technologies. At Lumencor, she is an inventor in nearly all the company’s patents and the leader of new business development. As well, she supervises sales and marketing, generating key new business relationships in developing markets for Lumencor’s novel lighting products in the life science arena.
Iain Johnson, Ph.D.
DIRECTOR OF TECHNICAL SUPPORT
Iain Johnson is a biochemist with expertise in the biophysics of fluorescence microscopy. With numerous patents and publications to his credit, Dr. Johnson is steeped in the physical chemistry of fluorescent and luminescent probes. His many years as a faculty member at the annual University of British Columbia 3D Microscopy course as well as with Molecular Probes/Invitrogen/Life Technologies and his own consulting firm, make him an ideal teacher, communications resource and support scientist for Lumencor’s many and varied customers; be they scientists, value added resellers or OEM engineers. Dr. Johnson is responsible for technical support of both internal sales staff as well as cutting edge researchers all over the world. Look for him at the next scientific exhibition or technical meeting.
Director of Manufacturing
Ron Hughes has over 18 years of experience in successfully managing the development of new products and the maintenance of sustained, high-tech products. Most recently he managed new product development at another Oregon lighting company, Phoseon Technology, MEMC, Inc., and PolyVision, Inc. Aside from project management, Ron also has extensive experience as a new product introduction engineer including a thorough understanding of system engineering design practices as they relate to manufacturing requirements. At Lumencor, Ron’s oversight on the manufacturing floor ensures the successful and reliable production of the company’s high performance lighting products for life sciences. He provides direction and coordinates the daily operations of the manufacturing department. He supervises training of new and existing manufacturing staff. He monitors daily production activities and ensures a well choreographed effort on the part of our highly skilled team, maintaining high performance operations in an efficient, respectful and cooperative workplace.
