Graphical User Interface (GUI) Lumencor GUIs provide a simple software interface for light source on/off switching and intensity control from a USB-connected computer running Windows operating systems up to and including Windows 10. Lumencor light engines utilize a FTDI USB UART (universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter) and connect to the host computer via a virtual COM port (VCP). It is generally necessary to install a VCP driver, which may be downloaded below. Unzip the download folder and run the enclosed Windows executable to install the driver. Successful installation is indicated by the appearance of “USB Serial Port (COM #)” under the “Ports (COM &LPT)” tab in the Windows Device Manager. # is the COM port number assigned by the operating system to the VCP. The COM port number assigned to the VCP should correspond to the one selected in the COM port dialog box in the GUI.

Third Party Image Acquisition Control Software
Many third-party image acquisition control software platforms support co-ordinated operation of Lumencor light engines with cameras and other peripherals. The light engine is addressed via serial communication from the host computer. Lumencor light engines utilize a FTDI USB UART (universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter) and connect to the host computer via a virtual COM port (VCP). It is generally necessary to install a VCP driver, which may be downloaded here. Depending on your application, the host computer may also address the TTL or light output gate port, usually via hardware peripherals such as digital acquisition (DAQ) cards.

STANDARD Mode Commands
Standard mode commands implemented on SPECTRA III, AURA III and CELESTA Light Engines consist of simple text strings. The command set is much more extensive than Legacy mode, providing access to an extensive panel of operating status reports and configuration settings.
LEGACY Mode Commands
Legacy mode commands support intensity control of each light source and on/off control. The serial commands are deﬁned in the Interface Documents for AURA II, SPECTRA X or SOLA SE. Just download the appropriate document below.
The Lumencor API package provides Windows DLLs of standard and legacy mode commands.
