Agriculture and Food Inspection

Inspecting food, beverages, and their associated packaging requires the ability to acquire and process images to derive information on parameters like size, shape, color, defects, and integrity. To do so, it is critical to optimize lighting intensity, uniformity, and geometry to obtain microscope images with good contrast and signal-to-noise. In addition, the varied light absorption properties of organic and inorganic materials can make the selection of the appropriate illumination wavelength for these applications a challenge. Before food can be packaged, it must be grown and harvested. Light is, of course, fundamental to plant growth. Lumencor’s solid-state illumination technologies are at the forefront in addressing these food inspection and quality control challenges.
