What is it like to work at Lumencor?
Lumencor is a manufacturing company. We produce state-of-the-art lighting tools used in the life science industry. We are proud of the products, of the science they support and of the good working environment we all share. We ship product everyday and our shared value is getting these products into the marketplace.
Our employees are proud of their work and conduct their efforts with integrity and honesty. We work well together because we are committed to an environment that fosters a healthy exchange of ideas and communication. We are not afraid to offer or receive constructive feedback and coaching because we know we all are working towards the same goal.
Who works at Lumencor?
We are a unique group of talented individuals with a diverse set of skills. Lumencor employs scientists, engineers and technicians in order to design and manufacture our light engines.
Our support staff includes human resource, finance, quality, regulatory, technical support (including IT), shipping and purchasing professionals. Our sales and marketing teams engage both internal and external support staff to guide our customers through the buying process.
Our products are highly technical and regulated, so our recruiting and interview process is rigorous. We want our employees to know that we chose them to join the Lumencor team, not only because they are skilled at what they do, but also because they are critical contributors in making our team the success that it is. We know the company grows as it’s people do and so we invest in them daily.
What is your company culture like?
At Lumencor, we believe a great company culture doesn’t just happen. We make every effort to ensure our employees feel inspired to come to work every day and valued for their contributions.
Every quarter we have “all-employee” meetings. We highlight recent successes and individual contributions. We want each employee to know they are critical to every win.
As the HR manager, I take different employees to lunch each week. I want to get them away from the office environment to freely express their ideas about making Lumencor better. These lunches provide an open forum where they can express what Lumencor is doing well and where we need improvement. These lunches have proven invaluable; we have implemented new initiatives born from our employees’ ideas.
We also know how to have a good time! In addition to a fantastic annual picnic and inspiring annual year-end party, we have corporate charity events, team building events, employee education opportunities and work together at volunteer activities.
This year, Lumencor employees packed hundreds of lunches for Portland Metro area children from low-income households, who often do not have food beyond what is provided while they are at school. Our extended community is important to us, too.
Are there any learning and development opportunities at Lumencor?
We foster the professional development of all of our employees. Every employee receives unique training to on-board them about what we build and how we conduct business. We have a strong focus on cross training amongst our manufacturing team.
We have a tuition reimbursement benefit to support outside education. Our best employees are our most important asset and we do what we can to promote their knowledge and skills.
